During last month’s official future strategy presentation BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer revealed plans for several all-new models including a design study dubbed the Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS). Details were brief but we were given an obscure design brief for the new concept, which is said to highlight efficient packaging methods and intelligent functionalities. As with most BMW concepts, the PAS will eventually spawn a production model slated for introduction around 2010.Recent spy shots of the car showed the new model will pickup many of the lines from the recently revealed X6, and it’s rumored to be available in both RWD and AWD configurations. Like the X6, the new PAS will only be a four-seater with individual bucket seats featuring full heating and massage functions. BMW will once again be stressing the car’s coupe characteristics just as it did with the X6. Expect to see extremely short overhangs, pumped fenders and optional 21in wheels. The wheelbase will stretch just over 3m with overall length around 4.85m. The car will initially be available with four different engines as well as the latest EfficientDynamics technologies including the possibility of a hybrid option.
The engine range will kick off with a 245hp 3.0L turbodiesel, followed by a pair of 300hp 3.0L twin-turbo six cylinder engines, one diesel and the other petrol. The range topper will be a new 408hp 4.0L diesel V8 with an available 600Nm of torque. During a recent interview, BMW exec Klaus Draeger said a second PAS could be built if the first model proves successful. Draeger also confirmed the name of the new range would start with the letter ‘V’ in the same way that the letter ‘Z’ is reserved for sports models and ‘X’ for the SUV range.

The styling of the all new V-Series features a fastback design allowing more headroom than the X6 whilst simultaneously being smaller than the R-Class. The V-Series will be based on the 5 series platform and is likely to inherit its entire engine range. Our spy photographer managed to get a couple of shots of the interior – albeit heavily disguised, but it still reveals details such as the gear lever and iDrive. As with all new BMW models, we are likely to see the V-Series in concept form possibly sometime during 2008 prior to the launch of a full production model in 2010.
